Blood-cancer consultations

Multiple myeloma consultation

Understand your myeloma diagnosis and treatment choices through a review of the tests you already have.

Understanding plasma-cell disease

Myeloma arises from plasma cells in the bone marrow and can affect bones, blood counts and kidney function. Related conditions, including MGUS and smoldering myeloma, differ from active myeloma and need their own assessment.

How I can help

A treatment plan tailored to your cancer, test results, overall health and preferences, informed by current evidence.

Clarify the diagnosis and risk findings

Review marrow, protein and imaging results to understand the diagnosis. Discuss how chromosome tests, including FISH when available, contribute to the assessment.

Review relevant treatment combinations

Compare appropriate medicine combinations, including targeted drugs and antibody-based treatments. Current evidence, kidney function, previous therapy, side effects and your priorities all matter when weighing the options.

Plan what needs monitoring

Explain how protein measurements and other tests track response, and discuss bone health, kidney function, anemia and infection concerns alongside the cancer treatment plan.

Reports to bring, if available

Bring the reports you already have. This list does not mean every test is needed.

  • Any marrow biopsy and chromosome/FISH reports
  • Existing blood or urine protein studies and free light-chain results
  • Recent blood counts, calcium and kidney-function tests, if available
  • Existing bone imaging and previous treatment summaries

Please also bring your medication list, previous treatment records, and questions.

Questions we can work through

  • Which findings establish whether my myeloma is active?
  • How do my kidney function and previous treatments affect the options?
  • Which protein measurements will help track my response?
